Definition

Tại, as a preposition, is used to indicate the specific position or location of a thing, action, or process.

Related Expressions

• Tại defines a place more exactly than ở and is often used for solemn or important events.
• Ở is used for locations on the body; tại is not used for this purpose.

Combinations

• Special combinations:

- tại gia: at one's residence
- tại chức: in-office / holding a position
- tại ngoại: out on bail
- tại trận: on the spot / at the scene

• tại chỗ: Used to indicate exactly where something happened. Note: Tại is not often used before relative location words like trước (before), sau (behind), cạnh (next to), trong (inside), or ngoài (outside).
