Definition

Thôi, as a particle, is used to express a limit of sphere, level, or uniqueness of things or actions.

  • thôi and chỉ / có: Thôi is similar to chỉ and có but has specific usages:
  • It appears after the item asserted.
  • It is often used in demands or suggestions.
- Anh nói ngắn thôi! (Be brief, please!)
- Cho ít đường thôi! (Just a little sugar!)
  • It is often used when talking about qualities or states.
- Không sao, tôi bị đau đầu thôi. (No problem, I just have a headache.)
- Không, cô ấy cười thôi. (No, she only smiled.)
- Không, mỏng thôi. (No, only a few pages.)
